  • Job Posting: Part-Time Tennis and Pickleball Instructor – Portland Tennis & Education (PT&E)

    Portland Tennis & Education (PT&E) is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Tennis and Pickleball Instructor to provide engaging instruction to youth and adults in both our after-school programs and public offerings. If you’re passionate about teaching, enjoy working with diverse communities, and want to promote physical fitness and personal growth, this part-time role could be a great fit!

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Youth Program Instruction: Plan and lead tennis and pickleball lessons for students in grades K-12, promoting fitness and fun while supporting student development.

    • Fitness & Activities: Lead warm-ups, drills, and activities that support physical and mental well-being.

    • Public Instruction: Provide private, semi-private, and group lessons to youth and adults in our public programs, promoting PT&E’s offerings and fostering community involvement.

    • Program Development: Support the growth of PT&E’s public tennis and pickleball programs by suggesting improvements and assisting with community outreach to recruit new participants.

    • Equipment Management: Ensure program areas and equipment are well-maintained and ready for use.

    Qualifications:

    • Required:

      • Previous experience teaching tennis or pickleball to both youth and adults

      • Proven ability to instruct group and private lessons

      • Willingness to work with students from diverse cultural, academic, and economic backgrounds

    • Preferred:

      • USPTA or USPTR certification

      • Experience in nonprofit, academic, or youth development settings

      • Proficiency in Spanish

    Schedule & Compensation:

    • Part-time, flexible hours that include after-school and weekend lessons.

    • Pay is commensurate with experience.

    Work Environment: You’ll work at PT&E’s facility in North Portland (St. Johns neighborhood), teaching a mix of indoor and outdoor tennis and pickleball activities. You’ll collaborate closely with students, families, and public participants.

  • Job Summary:

    As a Front Desk Representative at Portland Tennis & Education, you are the welcoming face of our facility during evening hours, creating a positive first impression for all visitors. Your role is essential in ensuring smooth daily operations by providing exceptional customer service, managing court reservations, handling inquiries, and assisting with administrative tasks. With your friendly and outgoing personality, strong attention to detail, and ability to multitask effectively, you help foster a professional and customer-focused environment. Your dedication ensures that everyone who walks through our doors feels welcomed, valued, and supported.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Greet and assist patrons and guests with a friendly and professional demeanor, ensuring a welcoming environment.

    • Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and provide accurate information about our facility, programs, and services.

    • Manage court reservations, check in players, and ensure smooth scheduling operations.

    • Process payments and handle cash transactions securely and accurately.

    • Assist with administrative tasks and facility upkeep, including sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash, loading and emptying the dishwasher, and sweeping the courts.

    • Help maintain the exterior of the facility by assisting with outdoor cleanliness.

    • Keep the front desk area clean and organized, ensuring that brochures, schedules, and promotional materials are readily available and neatly displayed.

    • Work collaboratively with staff to address customer needs and resolve any issues promptly.

    • Maintain and organize office supplies at the front desk to ensure a well-functioning workspace.

    • Foster a positive, welcoming atmosphere for PT&E staff, public tennis patrons, and stakeholders, serving as an enthusiastic ambassador for the PT&E program.

    • Actively promote programs and encourage community engagement to increase public participation.

    • Perform basic court maintenance, such as sweeping, drying wet areas, cleaning, and emptying garbage cans to ensure a safe and professional playing surface.

    • Prepare the courts for the next day and events by organizing equipment, checking nets, picking up balls, storing the pickleball nets away from the player walk way, and ensuring everything is in proper condition for early morning use.

    Qualifications:

    • Ability to work afternoon and evening shifts. Additional daytime and weekend hours may also be available.

    • Ability and willingness to work with patrons, staff, families, and volunteers from diverse cultural, academic, and economic backgrounds.

    • Strong customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.

    • Punctual, reliable attendance with a strong work ethic.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    • Basic computer proficiency for reservation and payment processing.

    • Knowledge of tennis and pickleball is a plus but not required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Customer Service experience.

    • Experience working in a nonprofit, academic, and / or youth development setting.

    • Spanish language skills, Oregon Food Handlers Card, and CPR Certification are a plus but not required.

    Schedule and Compensation:

    • Part-time position, approximately 10-15 hours per week, with a flexible schedule for evenings and weekends.

    • Pay is commensurate with experience, and PT&E offers paid time off (PTO) for part-time employees.
